BIOGRAFIE
MARIKA SCHMIEDT ist eine österreichische Romni, 1966 in Traun/Oberosterreich geboren. Sie ist Filmemacherin und bildende Künstlerin. Seit 1999 Recherchen zur Verfolgung von Roma und Sinti; die Auseinandersetzung mit der Situation der Roma vor und nach 1945 bildet einen Schwerpunkt der künstlerischen Arbeit. Ihre Recherchen und Videoarbeiten befassen sich mit der Geschichte und dem traumatischen Erbe des NS-Holocaust an den österreichischen Roma und Sinti. Mit ihrem Film VERMÄCHTNIS. LEGACY, ein Portrait über Ceija Stojka, war sie im 2. Roma-Pavillon Call the Witness auf der 54. Biennale in Venedig 2011 eingeladen. Tätigkeiten in der Jugend- und Erwachsenenbildung. Marika Schmiedt lebt und arbeitet in Wien.
BIOGRAPHY
MARIKA SCHMIEDT is an Austrian Romni, born in 1966 in Traun, Upper Austria. She is a film maker and visual artist. Since 1999 she has been researching the persecution of Roma and Sinti; the examination of the situation for Roma before and after 1945 forming the focus of her artistic work. Her research and video works are concerned with the history and the traumatic legacy of the Nazi Holocaust against Austrian Roma and Sinti. She was invited to the 2nd Roma Pavilion Call the Witness at the 54th Venice Biennale 2011 with her film VERMÄCHTNIS. LEGACY, a portrait of Ceija Stojka. She is involved in adult and youth learning. Marika Schmiedt lives and works in Vienna.
